About Us

Who We Are

The Bohemia Civic Association is a volunteer organization serving Bohemia and Connetquot-Sayville residents in the Town of Islip, New York. Since 1986, we've given our neighbors a collective voice on local issues — from land use and development to traffic, parks, and quality of life.

Advocacy

We represent resident interests before the Town of Islip and other agencies on zoning, development, and community planning matters.

Information

We keep neighbors informed about local news, public hearings, and issues that affect our community.

Community

We host meetings and events that bring residents together and strengthen the neighborly spirit Bohemia is known for.

To preserve the character and quality of life of our community by giving Bohemia and Connetquot-Sayville residents a unified voice in local affairs, keeping our neighbors informed on the issues that matter, and bringing people together to make our hamlet an even better place to live.

Save the date: The 2026 Great Bohemia Fall Clean-Up

Mark your calendar for Sunday, October 4, 2026 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM — the Bohemia Civic Association is teaming up with the Knights of Columbus Sunrise Council 6607 and the Connetquot Cares Coalition, in partnership with Keep Islip Clean, for a community-wide fall clean-up. We have a meeting spot: volunteers will gather in the parking lot of St. John Nepomucene, 1140 Locust Avenue, Bohemia. We're looking for volunteers — honor society students are welcome and can earn volunteer hours. To sign up, text Brian Bast at 646-258-7028 or email Andrew Fountaine at kicjrcommisioner@gmail.com. See the Events section for the flyer and directions. Many hands, one community — a cleaner Bohemia for everyone!

First meeting of the season: Monday, September 21

It's official — our first meeting of the season will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026 at 7:00 PM at the Bohemia Firehouse, 950 Pearl Street. This is an important one: we'll introduce the proposed board, take nominations from the floor, hold the election, and vote on adopting the bylaws. Suffolk County Legislator Anthony Piccirillo will swear in the new board and speak on Island Hills, battery energy storage facilities, and the Amazon warehouse, Islip Town Councilwoman DawnMarie Kuhn will address the membership, and Dr. Frank Connetquot, Interim Superintendent of the Connetquot Central School District, will give a district update. We'll also be running a membership drive, so stop by the membership table — and sign up for the fall clean-up while you're there. Residents and community members are encouraged to attend; see the Events section for a map and a calendar link.

We've expanded our membership opportunities to include local businesses! If you own a business or know of one that would like to become involved, we'd love to welcome you. As a business member, we'll help promote your business on our Facebook page while working together to strengthen our community.

Developments Affecting Bohemia

Major proposals are before the Town of Islip right now — the Amazon fulfillment complex in Holbrook, a town-wide data center moratorium, the MacArthur terminal project, and the Island Hills redevelopment on our southern border. We track all of them in one place, along with the hearings where residents can be heard.
